There’s just something so perfect about the beaches in Southern California. Life here feels slower, a little quieter, and honestly… kind of effortless.
This engagement session was exactly that. These two wanted a session that felt natural and a true representation of their relationship. We went a route with no strict posing. Mostly just walking along the beach and leaning into casual between moments between them.
A Laid-Back Southern California Engagement Session
We kept this session super relaxed from the start. There was absolutely no pressure to perform or get everything perfect. We kept most of their session by the water and as the session went on, it turned into running through the waves, wind in their hair, fully in the moment.
Why I Love Beach Engagement Sessions in Southern California
Southern California just has a different kind of energy. The light is always stunning, the beach is neutral, and there’s so much space to move around without feeling restricted. It gives you the freedom to just be together without constantly thinking about the camera. Engagement sessions feel different and makes a huge difference in making the session relaxed.
Keeping It Natural
One thing I hear all the time is:
“We’re awkward in photos.”
And honestly? Most people feel that way at first. Photos are a weird thing and can be uncomfortable in the beginning. The goal isn’t to force anything. I’ll guide you when needed, but I’m also watching for the in-between and letting you both intereact naturally.
A Little Note on Location
Even though I’m currently based in Detroit, sessions like this are a big part of where I’m headed next year and what I’m excited to photograph more of.
