A Garden-Inspired Engagement Session at Belle Isle Conservatory

This Belle Isle engagement session in Detroit, Michigan was one of my favorites.

Angela and Coopers engagement took place outside of the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle. The building is surrounded by greenery, beautiful paths, and soft summer light. It was truly the most perfect summer day.

These two have the sweetest dog that we just had to include in their session. There’s something about including a fur child that loosens everyone up right away. So many extra laughs, genuine smiles, and a little unpredictability in the best way. Watching them interact with him felt like a glimpse into their everyday life together, which is exactly what engagement photos should feel like.

From there, we wandered through the gardens and paths around the conservatory. The greenery was lush, the flowers were in bloom, and everything felt peaceful and unhurried. They move easily together holding hands and spinning each other down the path. Nothing overly posed.

The conservatory itself added such a beautiful backdrop. The glass structure, brick walls, and surrounding gardens gave the session a timeless, romantic feel while still feeling relaxed and approachable. It’s one of those locations that works effortlessly with movement and connection, allowing moments to unfold naturally.

What stood out most about this session was how comfortable they were together. The laughter came easily. The affection felt instinctive. Whether they were dancing along the path, sharing a quiet kiss near the gardens, or leaning into each other between moments, everything felt genuine and true to who they are.

Engagement sessions like this are a reminder that the best images often come from slowing down. Letting things breathe, letting the setting guide us, and focusing on connection above all else.

If you’re drawn to a natural, garden-inspired engagement session that feels relaxed, meaningful, and a little bit playful (especially if your pup is part of your story), Belle Isle Conservatory is always a beautiful choice. I’d love to chat and help you plan the perfect setting. Inquire here.
